Hi, my name is Grace. I’m a graduate student of Sandwich Technology School.
In September 2022, I will be going to college to study business. I wanted to experience what it’s like to work in a business, run a business, and learn more about marketing, as it’s a topic I’ve enjoyed for a while.
I was given the opportunity to collaborate remotely for a week with some smart people at Marketing Essentials Lab.
With this marketing internship, I was able to get an understanding of what it’s like to work in the marketing industry, and it has been such a fun experience learning all these new topics and how much work goes into one post and one client!
I have learned multiple interesting things during my week of experience.
It has ranged from learning how to write an interesting post and what catches people’s eye – you have to make sure the colours pop and see what’s trending to be at the top of the posts – to learning how to interest and gain trust from clients, showing what is good about your company and why it’s unique from others.
One of the most interesting things I’ve learned is humanisation and storytelling. Humanisation is to do with the fact that as each client is still a human, we should treat them like one. This enables us to gain their trust, and we are able to prove ourselves to clients, as we talk to them with respect and kindness. This way, they aren’t intimidated, and they feel comfortable voicing any questions or concerns.
It’s how B2B (business-to-business) communication is now choosing to speak to people as it’s clear, direct and simple; however, communication is all about the tone and needs to be relatable!
I also think the storytelling part is interesting because it brings out emotions and memories so people can more likely be able to relate and interact with the story. It makes your company more likely to be trustworthy.
Before I had this work experience, I didn’t know anything about how businesses work or how they get a good client base and following or how they even start up.
During this past week, I have been able to understand all the work that is put in and how many different things you have to learn to make sure your business is the best and that people will recommend you for future references.
With the help of the Marketing Essentials Lab team and their website, I was given a clear understanding of how media marketing works and what tools to use with whatever task is thrown my way.
What I’m going to take away from this marketing internship is how I can build my following on social media, especially LinkedIn, as well as advise my dad and his business (Radiance Honey) on how he can improve his posts and how to gain more of a following and more clients as a result of being more approachable in the way he presents online.
